Stonegate rescue some of Bramwell’s Pubs

The Bramwell Pub Company (previously Barracuda) went into administration at the end of October with 35 of the 185 premises closing. The Stonegate Pub Company have bought 78 of the best performing Bramwell Pubs many of which are in towns and cities where they had no interest before. Stonegate now own 623 pubs which makes them the second largest behind Wetherspoons with a £570m turnover.

It is believed that 6 of the pubs they have bought will join their Slug and Lettuce brand while the rest will be spread between Yates’s, Great Traditional Pubs and the Bar & Venues brands.

Some of the pubs bought are:-

  • The Goddard Arms – one of Swindon’s most historic hotels in the Old Town.
  • Lincoln’s Varsity Pub
  • The Pembroke in Coulsden – This was previously a Co-op supermarket, nice to see a reversal of what is happening in many towns!
  • The Rectory in Purley
  • The Old Bank in the High Street, Sutton.
